Environmental Care

Fife Environmental Services Ltd and the environment

Putting the Environment First

Fife Environmnetal Services Ltd recognise that in our day-to-day operations we inevitably make an impact on the environment in a number of ways and we endeavour to minimise the potentially harmful effects of such activity wherever and whenever possible. As a consequence of this, we are committed to continuous improvements in environment performance and the prevention of pollution.

As a primary part of our environmental pest control strategy is sustainable waste management, re-cycling and the reduction of emissions.

  • We recycle 90% of all our paper products, cardboard packaging and plastics.
  • Approx' 50% of our vegetables for lunches are home grown.
  • All bottles and clean plastic containers are recycled into plant pots for our own vegetables.
  • We use local services and business's where appropiate.
  • All our electrical appliances are digitally controlled to prevent wasting energy.
  • Lights in our premises are all low energy bulbs with dimmer controls fitted.
  • Long distance commuting for meetings etc is done by trains and buses where possible.
  • Cycle to work and general commuting locally are promoted.
  • Where vehicles are used we use TomTom satellite navigation to reduce journey times and use optimum routes which reduces both fuel and emissions.

We aim to minimise waste, especially hazardous waste, and we dispose of all waste through safe and responsible methods.

As secondry part of our pest control stratedgy is reducing the use of Pesticide use.

  • Non-use of Gassing agents are used where both possible and appropriate, we also carry out traditonal trapping methods against moles, rabbits and vermin.
  • Rodenticides are used where we cannot use live trapping in places such as premises or homes.
  • Insecticide use is used secondary, we try to remove harbouring areas and conditions  first then look at alternatives before using Insecticides.
  • Organic methods are being carried out more due to the organic products becoming available through our suppliers.
  • Non toxic baiting methods are used to establish an issue where possible before the use of live trapping.
  • 90% of Rodenticides are used in tamper-proof bait stations to reduce accidental poisoning of non target species.
  • 90% of Insecticides are mixed only for the specific use of each job carried out.

Fife Environmental Services Ltd review all our stratedgies on a regular basis to improve on both our service and impact on the environment, we can only improve this with both experience and the learning of new methods as we move forward.

We are constantly looking for new methods as a business to improve our service and the amount of waste we create each day.
